Wednesday May 23rd
Varied group , from USA , Australia , Hong Kong and France , was received at Male Airport in the afternoon and transferred to Mistral for the boat installation after the Safety Boat briefing.
Guests went to discover the vessel before dinner wich was served at 19.00hrs , followed by a General Dive briefing conducted by our CD Marc .
Nice sleep for the guests , some bad weather around Male with dtrong wind and rains , wich is usual at this time of the year with the rainy season starting.
Thursday May 24th
We did our check dive Sunlight thila with a couple of mantas to heat the show from the very beginning , even the weather conditions weren’t great , the dive was awesome.
Another manta was spoted at Lankan Beru , with some sting rays , napoleons and white tip sharks on a sympatic drift , and we ended on Kandoogiri with medium plus current that made us drift along the island seeing some sting rays and morays.
Stuck because of the weather we decide to wait one full night , deciding to stay in this atoll as the early morning weather , yellow alert included , was not inviting us to sail in the open ocean.
We could do 4 dives today even the strong wind did not stop blowing , first back at Kandoogiri , this time with mild current wich allowed us to observe better this busy dive site , second at Banana Reef with some jacks hunting , moray eels , a black tip and some napoleons , afternoon dive at the wall of Feydhoo finolhu where countless green turtles were spotted and a relax night dive at Kurumba housereef.
Just after dinner winds seem to settle down so its time to move , this time to South Male atoll , near Biyadoo where we drop the anchor and get some rest , tomorrow some more exciting dives.
Saturday May 26th
Woke up with sun and flat seas , wich is always nice , calm arrives after the storm.
Kandooma thila was our first dive , plenty of grey reef shark and some eagle rays , green turtle and some napoleons ; Guraidhoo channel was our second , we started enjoying the blue ribbon eels , some white tip sharks and giant trevallies in a fun drift with in current.
Some swell on the way to Vaavu where a great dive at Miyaru kandhu gave us plenty of action with many grey reef sharks , majestic school of jacks , some big tunas and an eagle ray and the day was completed by the always spectacular night dive at Alimatha jetty where we were literally alone with a dozen of nurse sharks and plenty of jacks hunting , and even an eagle ray showed up … great day of diving.
Weather was changing again with some scattered storms but as soon as we saw a hole in the meteo we start sailing arriving to Ari atoll around 04.00am , big hurrah for our captain and crew!
Sunday May 20th
Very windy day again , with some showers , we did search for the Whaleshark during the first 2 dives on the outside part of Lux and Digurah without success and we completed diving day at Kudah Rah thila where we enjoyed sharks , the juvenile eagle ray and the schools of yellow blue stripe snappers wich in hundreds allow us in through feeling one more of the shoal … a local island visit followed the day plus a super night diner by our chefs made our day.
Monday May 21st
Started the day with sun and some wind and dove Vilamendhoo thila where dozens of Platax made it for the photographers , Mahibadhoo rock only a very shy manta ray and gorgeous Mushimas Mingili thila with jacks in action , some grey reef sharks at the deep part , turtles and the black clown Frog Fish on the top , plus a night dive at Maaya thila with the white tip sharks hunting , turtles sleeping and moray eels looking for dinner.
Tuesday May 22nd
Our last diving day of the trip and the actual season before docking were awesome , Maaya thila and Baathala thila , grey reef sharks , a group of funny stone fish fighting probably for the pretty female , some octopus and plenty of clown fish in the anemones .
Happy guests after 7 days of diving wich started with ugly weather and ended with sun and some wind and swell on the way to Male , wich was visited before the last evening on board . Video and picture presentation , awards and final toast after another safe and great trip.
