Cruise Overview
Our Cruise for the next ten day in the Komodo National Park is a snorkelling cruise. We started off on the 29th august in the harbour town of Labuan Bajo where all of our guest boarded on time to which we started the engines and made our way to Sebayor Kecil, just outside of the Komodo National Park. At the end of our first day together we headed out to Batumonco Bay.

The following day we started our day in Batumonco Bay, a beautiful quite anchorage. We began our day with a beach walk in the morning followed by two snorkelling excursions and an evening sunset beach walk.

The next morning we headed over to Gili Banta were we started off with a beach walk with the sun on our backs we had excellent photo opportunities. We then prepared for our snorkel excursions around Gili Banta. With crystal clear warm water we had excellent snorkelling conditions.

We then started exploring the West side of the Komodo National Park. We started our morning at the ranger station called Loh Wenchi, here we had many close encounters with Komodo Dragons. We then started our snorkelling experience on the West side of the Komodo National Park. In the evening we headed out in the tender for a sunset cruise. At the end of our day we headed back to the northern side of the Komodo National Park.

This morning we started off with a morning hike on Gili Lawa Darat. Some of the guest decided to hike up to the top of the mountain while others decided to stay on the beach. we then snorkelled in the channel between Komodo and GLD in the evening we had another great land excursion on Pulau Bugies

Early in the morning we arrived in the central area of the Komodo National Park and started our day at the ranger station Loh Liang. Again we had many close encounters with giant Komodo dragons. In the morning we snorkelled around the pink beach and in the afternoon we moved to Padar Island for our second snorkelling experience. Around  o’ clock we started our second land excursion on Padar. Some of us hiked up and enjoyed an amazing sunset while others decided to enjoy the beach.

The following day we started off in the horse shoe bay the southern part of Rinca Island. We went for a beach walk on Nusakode and later on snorkelled this area as well. For the afternoon part of the day we headed out to snorkel around Mauan island and finished our day with a land excursion on the beach.

The following day we started off with a land excursion on Gili Lawa Laut were all of us hiked up the little hill and enjoyed the sunrise. We then snorkelled one of Komodo signature sites called Shotgun. We then headed out to snorkel around Makasar Reef. We then headed back to GLD for our sunset hike.

The last couple of days we spend in the northern area of the Komodo National Park. We visited some of the best snorkelling sites like Tatawa Besar and Batu Bolong. We then finished our trip with drinks on the stunning beach of Sabolan island

Snorkel 1: Sebayor Kecil
Time in: 17:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good 20 metres.
Snorkel report: We began our cruise with an easy going check-out snorkel site. A sandy plateau with big coral heads. At the end of our time in the water we enjoyed a stunning sunset over Komodo Island.
Special marine life: Blue spotted feather tail ray, hawksbill turtle.

30th August 2017

Land excursion 1: Batu Monco Beach
Time: 07:00.
Report: In the early morning we all got onboard our tenders and made our way to the beach of Batu Monco. We looked around for various washed up shells and later on walked through the bushes looking for birds.

Snorkel 1: Batu Monco Bay
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was a very easy snorkel site just of the beach. A nice sandy reef slope with many big coral heads scattered around.
Special marine life: Pinnate Batfish, Crinoids, Butterfly fish

Snorkel 2: Batu Monco Bay
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was at the same site, only this time we decided to snorkel in the other direction. We started off on the sandy plateau and made our way towards the reef. We were lucky with the low tide, because of this we were able the see everything up close.
Special marine life: Crown of thorns, schooling bannerfish, clownfish

Land excursion 2: Batu Monco
Time in: 17:00.
Report: In the late afternoon we went back to the beach of Batu Monco. We had a beautiful soft light coming in on the island that made for some really good photo opportunities. Upon returning to the main vessel we enjoyed a stunning sunset.

31st August 2017

Land excursion 1: North East Bay Beach
Time in: 7:00.
Report: This morning we arrived at Gili Banta, a stunning volcanic island with high mountains and steep cliffs. Our first land excursion was on the north east facing bay. Upon arrival we noticed that a lot of the habitat hat been destroyed by fire. Due to this all the bird life was concentrated in a smaller area and we even saw 8 species that we hadn’t seen this trip.
Animal life: Zebra finch, Blue tail bee eater, Bared dove, Brown Quill

Snorkel 1: Gili Banta East
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was on the east side of Gili Banta. A beautiful reef system with a big variety of hard/soft corals and big barrel sponges.   
Special marine life: clownfish, cornet fish, trumpet fish

Snorkel 2: Gili Banta West
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was on the West side of Gili Banta. We started off over a sandy reef slope with big coral heads. We got very lucky with a broadclub cuttlefish and a banded sea snake.
Special marine life: Broadclub cuttlefish, banded sea snake, longnose filefish

Land excursion 2: West side Beach
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Our second land excursion was on the West side Beach. A couple guest decided to stay on the beach and look for shells, while others decided to go try and find the illusive Bee Eater. Michel and Chance hiked up on one of the ridges and enjoyed a stunning sunset.

1st September 2017

Land excursion 1: Ranger Station
Time in: 7:00.
Report: This morning we arrived on the West side off Komodo Island. Our first stop was at the ranger station called Loh Wenchi. This ranger station is very remote and normally not visited by tourist. Upon arriving by the ranger station we had many close encounters with the Komodo Dragons. The rangers then took us on a walk through the bushes were we spotted some more Komodo Dragons.

Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was around an island on the West side of Komodo. Incredible rock formations, swim troughs and coral boomies formed this reef.  
Special marine life: clownfish, black tip reef shark, moray eel

Snorkel 2: Kings Beach
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was around an island on the West side of Komodo. Ron called this site “Kings Beach” because of the throne like rock formations. Underwater the reef started off as a gentle sandy reef slope with many big coral heads. When we drifted with the current around the corner we discovered a stunning wall with many different species of hard and soft corals.

Sunset Cruise
Time in: 17:00.
Report: During our sunset cruise we made it back to “Kings Beach” so we could take some pictures of Rama sitting in the throne. We then continued our cruise along the western shore of Komodo Island. When we discovered a dragon digging for eggs Ron, Chance, Rama and Michel went on the beach to try and take some close up shots of the Komodo Dragon.

2nd September 2017

Land excursion 1: Gili Lawa Darat
Time in: 7:00.
Report: Today we started off with a land excursion on Gili Lawa Darat. Roberta and Michel hiked to the top of the mountain to enjoy a stunning sunrise, while others remained on the beach photographing deer and a variety of birds.

Snorkel 1: GLD Passage
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was an exciting drift snorkel between Komodo island and Gili Lawa Darat. Again we started on the sandy plateau while gently making our way into the channel, and let the current take us through the channel and around the corner in the calm area of GLD.

Snorkel 2: Crystal Bay
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was at Crystal Bay, off of Gili Lawa Laut. All our snorkelers where dropped on the sandy plateau in the crystal clear water. We then went of exploring the different coral heads that are scattered around on this site.

Land Excursion 2: Pulau Bugies
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Our second land excursion of the day was on the northern Bugies Island. Michel and Chance went on an exploratory hike to the top. Upon reaching the top of the mountain we enjoyed a stunning view with an even better sunset. The rest of the group went of bird watching and looking for shells on the beach.

3rd September 2017
Land excursion 1: Ranger Station
Time in: 7:00.
Report: This morning we arrived on the East side off Komodo Island. Our first stop was at the ranger station called Loh Liang. Here we went on a 2 hour long walk through the Komodo forest. We had many close encounters with Komodo Dragons and spotted a wide variety of birds.

Snorkel 1: Pink Beach
Time in: 10:45. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Moderate, 1 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was off of Pink Beach. Pink beach is located in the central area of the Komodo National Park.   

Snorkel 2: Padar Island
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 27°C. Visibility: Moderate, 10-15 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was around Padar Island.  

Land Excursion 2: Padar Island Hike
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Our second land excursion was the famous hike on Padar Island. Tom, Roberta, Chance, Gary and Michel all Hiked to the top of the mountain. Gary struggled a lot getting to the top, the other 4 just kept going. Another group stayed on the flat area photographing birds and deer.

4th September 2017
Land excursion 1: Nusakode
Time in: 7:00.
Report: This morning we arrived on the south side of Rinca Island. Our first land excursion was on Nusakode, the big island forming the horse shoe bay. Upon arrival we were greeted by a couple of monkeys. We then headed off through the mangroves looking for birds.

Snorkel 1: Nusakode Beach
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 26°C. Visibility: Moderate, 10 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkelling experience was off of Nusakode beach. unfortunately the water was a bit green but the bio diverse marine life is excellent in this area.

Snorkel 2: Mauan
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was at Mauan, Mauan is located in the northern part of the Komodo National Park. We started off on a shallow sand bank covered in a wide variety of coral and reef fish.
Land Excursion 2: Mauan
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Around 5 o’clock we headed out for our second land excursion of the day on Mauan Island. We spotted a variety of birds and did some beach combing.

5th September 2017
Land excursion 1: Gili Lawa Laut
Time in: 7:00.
Report: Around 6am this morning we started up the engines and headed north for our first land excursion on Gili Lawa Laut. Upon arrival we spotted many goats. We then followed the trail up to top of the mountain. When we returned to the tenders we headed out towards the lighthouse to get some shots of the eagle chicks.


Snorkel 1: Shotgun
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was at the famous dive called shotgun. The snorkelers had sightings of barracuda and manta rays. Michel and Vicki went diving and had sightings of white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse and schooling midnight snappers.

Snorkel 2: Karang Makasar
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was at Karang Makasar. This is normally the manta ray hangout. Unfortunately we didn’t see any when we went to check out the site. So we decided to snorkel on the reef were we had sightings of turtles and a wide variety of reef fish.

Land Excursion 2: GLD
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Our second land excursion was a nice walk on the beach of Gili Lawa Darat. We spotted many deer and a variety of deer. Roberta, Tom, Chance Garry and Michel hiked up to the top the watch the stunning sunset. (Garry was struggling again)

6th September 2017
Land excursion 1: Mauan
Time in: 7:00.
Report: We began our day with a land excursion on Mauan Island. We Landed on the perfect white beach and then headed of looking for birds. We hiked to the top of the hill to get a beautiful view of the whole island.

Snorkel 1: Mauan
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel excursion of the day was on 1 of the manta cleaning stations of Mauan Island. Some of us were lucky and spotted a giant Manta while others were enjoying the spectacular corals in the shallows.

Snorkel 2: Karang Makasar
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: our second snorkel excursion of the day was at Tatawa Besar. We started on a sandy plateau and snorkelled over the shallow reef, big table corals,  a variety of soft corals and lots of fish made this one of the best snorkelling sites during this trip.

Land Excursion 2: Ranger Station
Time in: 17:00.
Report: After our snorkelling experience we headed to Wainilu to anchor. From there we made our way to the ranger station in the tenders. Upon arrival at the dock we spotted several monkeys and everyone had the opportunity to get some nice pictures. During our dragon walk we saw 5 big Komodo Dragons and a variety of birds.

7th September 2017
Land excursion 1: Tatawa Besar
Time in: 7:30.
Report: We began our day with a land excursion on Tatawa Besar. Due to the low tide we had to make a wet landing and when we arrived on the beach we had to climb over a small hill to get our walk started. We then discovered the beautiful beach of Tatawa Besar and went of looking for birds.

Snorkel 1: Batu Bolong
Time in: 10:00. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report: Our first snorkel experience was at Batu Bolong, a stunning pinnacle covered in a wide variety of coral, sponges and fish. We had sightings of giant barracuda, giant trevally, white tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles and fish lots of fish.

Snorkel 2: Sabolan
Time in: 14:30. Water temperature: 28°C. Visibility: Good, 25 metres.
Snorkel report:.Our last snorkelling experience of the trip was at Sabolan. We started off snorkelling on Sabolan Kecil and later on decided to move to Sabolan Besar to snorkel around the dock. We had sightings of juvenile harlequin sweetlips and banded sea snakes.

Land Excursion 2: Sabolan
Time in: 17:00.
Report: Our second land excursion was a nice walk on the stunning beach of Sabolan Island. Due to the high tide we had easy access to the beach. some of us enjoyed the stunning beaches while others went of exploring the rest of the island.
